P-Series - Calculus 2

Nov 01, 2022

Another special type of series you may encounter is what is known as a p-series. A p-series is a series that involves n raised to a power p in the denominator of the nth term. This type of series is special because similar to a geometric series, we can easily determine its convergence. Specifically, the value of the power p determines whether a p-series converges or not. However, unlike a geometric series, we will not be able to calculate the sum of a p-series, just if it converges or diverges.

Overall, the concept of a p-series is not too complicated, so this lesson is shorter than most of the lessons in Calculus 2 have been so far. So let's get right to it!

In this lesson, you will learn:

  • What a p-series is and how to identify one
  • How to determine the convergence of a p-series based on the value of p

I hope you find this video to be helpful!
