Integration By Parts - Calculus 2

Sep 15, 2022

The next major group of concepts we will look at in Calculus 2 after the applications of integrals is advanced integration techniques. The first of those techniques we are going to focus on is known as Integration By Parts.

Integration By Parts will allow us to solve integrals that we previously were not able to integrate via any other method. Most of the time these integrals will include a product of two different functions from the following list: logarithmic functions, exponential functions, trigonometric functions, inverse trigonometric functions, and algebraic functions such as polynomials.

While the formula for integration by parts is easy enough to learn, it can be difficult to master. Knowing how to choose different parts of your integral to use in the formula is arguably the hardest part. And that is the focus of this lesson in Calculus 2. My goal is that by the end of the video, you will have a better understanding of how to use the Integration By Parts technique for a variety of integrals. Let's get to it!

In this lesson, you will learn:

  • What the Integration By Parts technique is, why we need it, and where it comes from.
  • How to determine u and dv in an integral and use those parts to solve an integral with the Integration By Parts Formula.
  • When to use Integration By Parts multiple times in order to solve certain kinds of integrals.

I hope you find this video to be helpful!
