Calculus 3 Official Announcement

Jul 10, 2023

Hi there!

Today I am excited to finally reveal the next math course I will be making videos for at JK Math! Having now completed video series for Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Financial Mathematics, I am ready to begin... Calculus 3!

I am particularly excited to make videos for this course as Calculus 3 (sometimes called Multivariable Calculus) was my personal favorite math course I took as an undergrad student. And so now that I have the building blocks of Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 covered at JK Math, I can finally begin to cover the awesome course that is Calculus 3!

I have already been working on creating the first couple lesson and examples videos for the course, but have some more work to do in the background before I am ready to dive into a regular schedule and begin to release new videos weekly. So while I cannot provide an exact date for when the coverage will begin, I am currently aiming to release the first lesson in late July or early August. (Get a preview of the thumbnails below!)

In terms of the upload schedule (once it begins), I am going to take a different approach than I did with previous courses. Due to the more complex nature of topics in Calculus 3 compared to previous courses, the plan is to have 1 new lesson video and its corresponding examples video release per week at most. Unfortunately, I believe the days where I posted 4-6 new videos a week are over. Producing that many videos every week in the past was quite exhausting and I really want to take my time with Calculus 3 and make sure the videos are the best that they can be in order to help you learn the concepts at hand.

Now, in addition to creating lesson and examples videos for Calculus 3 that will be 100% free to watch on my Youtube channel, I will also be making bonus content at the same time that will only be available on my membership site, JK Math+. This includes dark mode (color inverted) versions of each lesson and examples video, as well as exclusive example problems that will NOT be on YouTube. Also, the dark mode versions of the videos will be available on JK Math+ first before the regular versions are public on YouTube (early access).

I have yet to fully map out every single topic that will be covered, so I do not know how many lessons will make up Calculus 3. However, I expect that it will be at least 50 just like with Calculus 1 (55 lessons) and Calculus 2 (52 lessons). As such, I expect coverage of Calc 3 to extend into next year before it is complete, but I am committed to the process and can't wait to start!

Before I end this blog post, in case you are unfamiliar with Calculus 3 and the main topics it covers, here's a quick list of what you can expect to learn:

  • Vectors
  • 3-Dimensional Space (z-axis!)
  • Vector-Valued Functions
  • Functions of Several Variables
  • Partial Derivatives
  • Multiple Integration (Double & Triple!)
  • Line Integrals & Surface Integrals

As you can see, there is a lot to look forward to in Calculus 3! But that's all I have for now, so look forward to Calc 3 videos soon!
